Jane Blake was born in England, studied fine art in England and Paris, and yet always had an interest in the decoration of fabric. On a trip to Israel she learnt to do batik from a friend and sold her first fabrics in Israel. She was inspired there by the work of several textile artists and the colors and light of the desert.
She came to New York over 30 years ago where she continued to produce painted fabric for theater, film and the fashion industry. Gradually she began to bring together her art school training as a painter and her interest in working on fabrics to produce silk wall hangings, paintings and decorative pieces.
Several years ago she moved to Sullivan County, New York where she now maintains her studio.
When I was young we had a beautiful garden in the English countryside. I draw my inspiration from those impressions, from my own extensive flower garden, the surrounding mountains and from the luminosity of the silk I am painting on. My love of color is satisfied by the intense color saturation produced by dyes on silkTo see more of Jane Blake's work, please visit her website at www.janeblake.com
